In the Impressionist volume, children will learn about the vibrant colors and bold brush strokes in images of everyday life as a signature trademark in impressionist paintings. Learners will explore the various subject matter and styles between four different impressionist artists, examine and discuss artwork, take virtual gallery tours, participate in fun interactive games and quizzes along with exciting activities inside their GSA Art Workbooks. Using the art kit, learners will apply their self expression skills and impressionism techniques to create their own art project at the end of each lesson.


Students will receive their own art kit and Art Program: Impressionism workbook in the mail before the course starts!


Lesson Overview

Over the course of four lessons, students will examine and discuss famous artists amongst peers, view examples of artwork, take virtual gallery tours, and participate in fun interactive games and quizzes along with exciting activities inside their GSA Art Workbooks. During each lesson, learners will apply their self expression skills using a different medium from their art kit to make custom artwork!


Art Program Course Kit

This course kit includes a special GSA Art Program workbook based on the course you select. Workbooks are filled with fun facts, extra activities, and amazing pictures! The art kit consists of 85 pieces and has everything you need to be an artist!

Students will learn a brief background of art before being introduced to the impressionist era. Students will examine and discuss one of the most recognized impressionist artists Claude Monet and view examples of his artwork. Students will refer to their GSA workbooks throughout the lesson and look at an online gallery of Monet. At the end of the lesson, students will apply their self expression skills to making a watercolor masterpiece with inspiration from Claude Monet.


In lesson 2 students will look at another artist of the impressionist era, Mary Cassatt. Students will examine and discuss this pivotal female impressionist artist, view her artworks and learn about her style. Learners will view interesting videos and participate in exciting learning activities inside their GSA Impressionism workbook. At the end of the lesson, students will create a custom colored pencil artwork with inspiration from Mary Cassatt’s impressionism style!


Students will examine and discuss well known Impressionist artist, Edgar Degas, in lesson 3. Learners will view examples of his artwork, discuss his fascination with ballet dancers, compare and contrast lesson images with workbook images, and participate in fun learning activities inside the GSA Impressionism Workbook! Students will get creative and produce an oil pastel art creation with influence from Edgar Degas Ballet Dancers.


In lesson 4 we will focus on an amazing impressionist artist, Berthe Morisot, who was the first female artist when the movement started. Learners will utilize their GSA Impressionism workbook during the lesson, view examples of her artwork and discuss Berthe’s art process during a time when it was frowned upon for a woman to be a painter. Towards the end of the lesson, students will apply creative thinking skills to replicate an acrylic painting like Berthe Morisot and finish out the course with a fun quiz reviewing what we have learned throughout the Impressionism Course.
